It’s happened!! I was waiting for a confirmation email from Evri (other delivery companies are available). Still, I received a text instead – of course, I opened it. I happily supplied them with my telephone number and then it hit me. NO! NO! NO! The spammers got me and have opened my telephone to all sorts of problems!
A few years ago, I would have said that ‘Spam’ was a rather dodgy meat product that was a staple from my childhood, now I am guilty of adding many expletives before the word and hate the thought of getting caught out by it.
So what is the dictionary definition?
The Oxford English Language Dictionary has two:
- irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the internet, typically to a large number of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc.
- Trademark – a tinned meat product made mainly from ham.
If you have ever filled in an inquiry form online, ordered goods, or paid a bill you are at risk of spam. Internet security is vital, and most security products do the job well, but what if, like me, you have fallen for the dupe? Can you be saved from losing money, information, and privacy? Indeed, spam filters are vital. Sitec IT supplies Sentinel One and offers a complete backup and monitoring service to prevent malicious activities from endangering your business.
I can’t promise that those sneaky little spammers won’t try to get me again in the future, but I do know that my identity is fully protected, and my internet security is first class. Is yours?
